Meet the Climate Ambassadors for 2026 - 2027!

The girls wrote fantastic applications explaining why they wanted to take on this important leadership role and how they would help make High Green Primary a greener, more sustainable school.

They have already made a brilliant start! During Recycling Week, they confidently planned and delivered an assembly to the whole school, encouraging everyone to think carefully about recycling and looking after our planet.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, they also work alongside Sheffield City Council’s Civil Enforcement team to promote safer, more considerate parking around our school. Throughout the year, they will lead a range of environmental projects and help us continue to make positive changes across school and within our wider community.

We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, confidence and commitment and can't wait to see what they achieve this year!

Climate Ambassadors

At High Green Primary School, caring for our planet is an important part of our identity. Our Climate Ambassadors are pupil leaders who help drive our sustainability work and champion positive environmental change across the school and wider community.

Who Are Our Climate Ambassadors?

Our Climate Ambassadors are environmentally-minded pupils from Key Stage 2 who are passionate about nature, sustainability and protecting our planet. They proudly model our values —
Be Responsible, Be Kind, Be Respectful and Be Proud — in everything they do.

What Do They Do?

Climate Ambassadors lead a wide range of initiatives that support our whole-school commitment to outdoor learning and sustainability, including:

• Working with the Energy Heroes Team:
  They meet with our Energy Heroes to learn about energy-saving strategies and help promote simple, sustainable habits across the school.

• Weekly Litter Picking:
  Every Friday, our ambassadors carry out a litter-picking patrol to keep our school grounds clean, tidy and safe for wildlife.

• Developing and Caring for Our Allotment:
  Climate Ambassadors played a key role in establishing our school allotment. They now help plant, water, weed and harvest throughout the year, supporting classes to learn where food comes from and how to care for living things.

• Caring for Our Outdoor Spaces:
  They help maintain the woodland, nature areas and secret garden, supporting our commitment to outdoor learning and biodiversity.

• Leading Eco & Climate Projects:
  Ambassadors contribute to rewilding activities, recycling drives, energy-saving campaigns and climate-themed assemblies.

• Supporting Our Climate Curriculum:
  They work closely with staff to promote sustainability topics across the curriculum, ensuring pupils understand the importance of caring for our world.

• Representing Pupil Voice:
  Climate Ambassadors meet regularly with staff to share ideas, identify areas for improvement and help shape the school’s climate-ready journey.

• Inspiring Others Across School:
  They encourage their peers to get involved in green activities, model good environmental habits, and promote pride in our school environment.
