School Parliament is a group of pupils who are elected to represent the views and ideas of all the children in the school. They help to make the school a better place for everyone.

Here are some of the things they do:

School parliament listens to the ideas, opinions, and concerns of other pupils and shares them with teachers and school leaders. They help to organise themed days , competitions, or special events that we celebrate. They come up with creative ideas to raise money for the school. The school parliament helps the school support important charities like Comic Relief and BBC Children in Need.

HIGH GREEN PUPIL PARLIAMENT VISIT TO THE COUNCIL CHAMBER

High Green Pupil Parliament had a fantastic opportunity to visit the council chamber for the High Green area, located within the Ecclesfield Parish Council offices on Mortomley Lane.

The children were warmly welcomed and enjoyed some refreshments before taking part in a real meeting inside the council chamber. It was a brilliant experience for them to see how local decisions are discussed and made.

During the visit, pupils had the chance to meet local city councillors and the Chair of the Council, learning about their roles and how they represent our community. The children were particularly excited to try on the ceremonial Chain of Office, the official necklace worn by the Chair during meetings and civic events. They also saw historic photographs of past Chairs and the previous Chain of Office displayed in a frame, which sparked lots of great questions about the history of the council.

Our Pupil Parliament then held their own discussion about ideas for fundraising at our upcoming Easter event on Tuesday 14th April. It was wonderful to see the children confidently sharing ideas and thinking about how they can help support their school community.

We are incredibly proud of how well they represented High Green Primary School, showing confidence, curiosity and fantastic behaviour throughout the visit.

A huge thank you to Ecclesfield Parish Council for hosting us and giving our pupils such a valuable insight into local democracy.
