The Nest
At High Green Primary School, we recognise that children learn best when they feel safe, settled and ready to learn. The Nest is our dedicated nurture and regulation space, designed to support children who may need a little extra help at different points during their school day.
The Nest provides a calm, welcoming environment away from the busy classroom to access targeted support, work individually or in a small group, or simply have some quieter time before returning to their usual learning.
Importantly, The Nest is not a SEND-only provision. It is part of our whole-school approach to inclusion and wellbeing and can be accessed by children across school when appropriate. Some pupils may use The Nest regularly as part of an agreed support plan, while others may access it for a shorter period when they need additional support.
The provision includes both our indoor Nest and our Outdoor Nest, giving children opportunities to learn, regulate and build confidence in different environments. Activities are carefully planned according to children's individual needs and may focus on emotional regulation, communication, social skills, confidence, independence or readiness to learn.
Our aim is always to support children to be successful within their classroom and wider school community. The Nest therefore works alongside high-quality classroom provision rather than replacing it. Staff work closely with class teachers and our SENDCos to ensure that support is purposeful, reviewed and responsive to children's needs.
The Nest reflects our belief that inclusion does not mean every child receiving exactly the same support. It means recognising what individual children need in order to thrive, participate and become the best version of themselves.
