18 May 2026
On Monday 18th May, our talented Year 5 children took part in the amazing Brass Extravaganza concert alongside many other Year 5 classes from across Sheffield!
The children performed brilliantly, showcasing everything they have been learning during their weekly brass lessons in school. They played both the cornet and the pBuzzers with confidence, enthusiasm and huge smiles on their faces. They showed fantastic teamwork, resilience and courage performing in front of such a large audience — we were incredibly proud of them all! ![]()
During the concert, the children also had the wonderful opportunity to watch professional musicians perform both alongside them and independently, including the fantastic Silkstone Brass Band. This gave the children a real insight into live musical performance and allowed them to experience the power, excitement and joy that music can bring. ![]()
These lessons take place every Thursday and are taught by Andy Harris from the Sheffield Music Hub as part of our wider musical offer at High Green. We are incredibly proud of the opportunities we provide for our children to develop a love of music and performance.
At High Green, our progressive music offer includes:
pBuzzers in Year 2
Violin lessons in Year 3
Cornet lessons in Year 5
Rocksteady sessions
Private music tuition through the Music Hub
School choir and performance opportunities throughout the year
We firmly believe music helps children grow in confidence, creativity and self-expression, whilst also creating memories that last a lifetime.
Next year, it is my ambition for every Year 5 child to attend the Brass Extravaganza so that all children can gain this incredible experience and perform as part of something so special. We have already booked our place for next year and cannot wait to take part again! ![]()
Well done Year 5 — you truly represented High Green beautifully! ![]()
