Dear Parents/Carers, what an eventful term it has been so far. We are getting into the Christmas spirit in our class and can not wait to celebrate.

In Maths we have been focusing on the order of operations and place value. WE are beginning to understand the value of each digit and have also looked at adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers. We have now moved on to converting fractions, decimals and percentages. WE have struggled with this a little bit and will be continuing with this. After this we will begin our wok on adding and subtracting fractions.

In English we have been working on how to create a newspaper article. We have identified the features of a newspaper article and created a group newspaper article on the other side of the story of the 3 little pigs. We really enjoyed sharing our views ion the big bad wolf and how their are always 2 sides to a story. We are now working on creating our individual newspaper report on the recent localised flooding in South Yorkshire.

In Science we have nearly completed our work on Charles Darwin’s’ theory of evolution and how natural selection works. We are currently investigating the Galapagos Finches and will be experimenting the 4 different forms of beaks the finches have.

In Topic we have been learning about the Stone Age diet and how people used to hunt and gather food. We will be creating our own come dine with me menu using the food that was available in the stone age era.

In Art we have been looking at optical illusions and started our work on Andy Goldsworthy. We have also created beaker pot that would have been used in the stone age. We used clay to create these and had so much fun making them.

In P.E. we have been trying extremely hard to keep the active challenge trophy and are so far succeeding in doing this. We really enjoy being active in year 6. We have been working on our dance and basketball skills so far this term.

We have also had a visit from the British Red Cross this term discussing what they do and how they help and support those in need. We have a fabulous debate on our views and what we have read or seen in the media in regards to migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. the children behaved amazingly and the discussion continued into the afternoon.
