Y6 Blog December

Dear Parents/Carers, what a fab half term we have had!

We cannot believe that today is the last day of the Autumn term.

In Maths this term we have been looking at algebra and formula. We have also been working on linear sequences and have really enjoyed this. in maths next half term we will be working on percentages, area n and perimeter as well as decimal numbers.

In English we have been working on how to improve our writing by adding higher vocabulary and advanced punctuation. we have been looking at a range of newspaper articles and have created some of our own. We really enjoyed creating newspaper articles based on the traditional tale of the Three Little Pigs. Next half term we will be looking at poetry and narratives. The poets we will be finding out about are William Blake and Edgar Allan Poe.

In Science we have finished our work on Evolution and Inheritance. We have looked at the theory of evolution and the theorists that were behind the theories. We have researched about Charles Darwin and Alfred Wallace. Next half term we will be working on how animals are classified.

In Topic we have finished our work on the Stone Age and have really enjoyed the topic. The homework projects were exceptional and really detailed. Great work to all of the year 6 children. The children presented their projects to the class and answered questions based on their projects-some great facts and knowledge shared. Next term out topic is based around Rainforests and the British Raj.

In P.E. we have been working on multi skills and basketball. Great effort from all the children. Next term we will be focusing on dance.

A really big thank you to all children and parents who helped out for the Victorian Week it was a great success and the children in year 6 showed great resilience and expert selling skills.

Next half term we will be focusing on Geography and Music in out topic sessions.

Our trip to the Tropical butterfly House will be on Thursday 7th February 2019 at the cost of £15 per child.

I hope you all have a fantastic well deserved break.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

See you all on Tuesday 8th January 2019.
