Y4 Blog – May 2018

Year 4 have been working very hard over the last month and have really enjoyed the start of their new topic – Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts.

In English, we have been focusing on structure of stories and imitating a story about a magical door to a mysterious world. Once we had imitated the story using a story map, we innovated the story, changing the description and other aspects. This helped us to understand how to structure our writing in an effective way. To finish off the area of learning, we invented our own story around the same theme. We really enjoyed being creative and thinking about how we could change the plot!

In maths, we have been focusing on fractions. We started by finding fractions of shapes, then fractions of numbers (to make sure our potions were correct!), then equivalent fractions! We have found fractions challenging but have enjoyed pushing ourselves with our learning and are much more confident now!

In topic, we have started lots of different projects. In art we have been researching mythical creatures and designing our own mythical creature! We have enjoyed mixing all of the creatures together to create our own! In DT, we have started a project to make some clothes for Dobby the house elf so he can be freed! In science, we have been looking at animals and sorting them using Caroll diagrams and Venn diagrams.

Well done y4, keep up the hard work!
