Y1 Blog 11.5.18

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have been very busy in Year 1! Please read below to find out about all the exciting things we have been up to!

In English we have been looking at poetry. We have been writing poems all about what we like and don’t like and have been linking them using the conjunctions ‘and’ and ‘but’. An example of a line from one of our poems was; “I love chips and fish but I don’t like mushy peas.” We have now moved onto Handa’s Surprise and been thinking of a variety of adjectives to help us to describe all the exotic fruits in the story. We might have even tasted some to help us out!

In Maths we started off by recapping addition and subtraction before moving onto time. We learn’t that clocks have two main hands. The big (minute) hand and the little (hour) hand. When the big hand is at the top it means o’clock and when it is at the bottom it means half past the hour.

In Science we have been looking at plants. We learn’t about all the different parts of a plant and then went on a plant hunt around the school grounds to see which ones we could find. In D&T we have designed, made and painted our very own plant pots!

Thank you,

The Year 1 Team
